I swear...people just don't understand who goes when, when it come to a 4 way stop...I find myself talking to me in my car saying "Okay guys...yeah you...it's your turn...and then that guy over there..yep..he's right after you." Ack..it drives me up the wall..
When it's my turn to go ...no one seems to remember that..people act like it's always their turn next. I was there first..and I'm to the right..I go before you! I have had so many near hit-misses...and the person in the wrong acts like it's not their fault. It's erks me it really does.
Does anyone ever seem to find this problem!? ( I know the stop sign is pretty much universal)

Yeah, I know what you mean. There seems to be a complete loss of mind at those things! I've waved people through before after seeing them start, stop, start, stop... it's like, ok buddy, *wave* you just go ahead on through, cuz I'm not pulling out in front of ya! *mumble* ya idiot.

I think if you have the bigger car and more insurance, then you have right of way :)... that's seems to be the way it works in England. I remember from my time in South Africa that big German cars (BMW, Merc) seemed unable to stop at all {headspin} Never understood that one...
I like the guy that has been sitting there for five seconds when you pull up...he is on your right...you look at him like, "HEEEEELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO! It's your turn." He inturn gives you the look of stupidity, so when you get tired of waiting and pull out...*Varoooom*...here he comes!
Fingers fly, screams are heard...it's a bad sceen...all because he had his wife fill out his drivers-license renewal because he 'didn't have time for that stupid stuff!'
*sigh*
I love my gender...{rolleyes}
Don't even get me started on the opposite gender driving though... I'm a double-edged dagger! {toothy}

Oy! DarkInHere - Watch it! I drive a German sedan (Audi) in South Africa! {toothy}
The worst are those people who seem intent to wave everyone through rather than moving when it is their turn to go. "C'mon Mr Sole! Get a move on! You're causing confusion!" ... and then they expect you to wave in gratitude when they let you go first.
It seems that most drivers here have had their ignition switches remotely connected to their brains. Ignition On - Brain Off!
TTP - Gender is an accident of birth. Driving skills are taught (and in most cases - not learned).
We have a new thing here in South Africa nowadays. They are being installed at intersections on roads where the average speed is deemed to be excessive. They are little circles in the centre of the intersection and drivers are supposed to follow the normal rules of approaching traffic circles. They call them "Calming Cirlcles". Calming Circles, I ask you with tears in my.... WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL THAT IDIOT TO MOVE ON! EVERYONE IS WAITING FOR YOU DODO!! ..Calming Circles indeed!

I'm laughing about your German car because of a family story. My younger brother was in Israel. He was talking to some guy and bragging about the fact that our dad drives a mercedes. That was when the other fellow said, "Oh! Your dad is a taxi driver?" LOL! That kind of deflated my brother's ego...at least for about two minutes.

LOL Jim!
that's cute.
I've heard of those 'calming circles' you speak of Thespian. I must laugh....hard!! They tried that here once...more than ten years ago...no one cared!!!!
They caused more problems then they were worth...so, they are no longer used. That was ten years ago though...can you imagine them trying that out today?!?!? That is why I laugh so hard.
I think philly must have a different rule book for driving than everyone else....because the people here drive like they are the only ones on the road. I think they make up the rules as they go along.

As I browse through the caves of forum past...
They installed a four way stop a couple blocks away from our house a little while ago. Problem is, on two of the "ways" a tree hanging down blocks the stop sign. And nobody seems to know it is there now, so they drive right through it. [sheepishly] I've been guilty of that a couple times too.

I don't like the entrance to our mall. The people already in the parking lot have stop signs. The people entering the parking lot do not. What do they do? They pull up to the intersection and stop. Grrrr...
http://www.jimloy.com/humor/fourway.htm - Funny.
For those of you looking at this thread and wondering what the actual rule is for a 4-way stop --
Yield to the car which arrives first or to the car on your right if it reaches the intersection at the same time as you do. That means you go clockwise.
If two cars arrive at the same time going in opposite directions, but one is turning left, the car going straight goes first.
If two cars arrive at the same time going opposite directions, with one turning left and the other turning right, the person turning left yields.
I'm pretty sure I got that all correct.
