View Full Version : Telephone Stupidity

I returned to work yesterday after 2 weeks off with "stress related problems" (see my previous post "Mid life Crisis" in Anything Goes).
The day before my project manager had apparently tried to contact me on my mobile phone, but I had it turned off for some peace and quiet - I was supposed to be off sick after all. I had been checking my mobile for messages quite regularly, but my project manager had refused to leave me a message.
Why? {confused} ... "Telephones are for speaking on"
My anti-depressant pills must be working as I no longer felt the urge to choke him!
Are there any more nominees for the "Scared of the Phone" award?

I'm afraid that would be me...{anon}
I'm sorry...I can't help it. I hate leaving messages, and will not do so.
I really really hate when I call someone, who I know is home, and they let the machine pick up the phone. That drives me crazy!
Even hubby hates that I am that way.
I don't always leave messages. Sometimes I'll just call back later. Or sometimes the person has more than one number you can reach them at, so I don't leave four messages.

This has been an issue in my marraige. I'd turn off the ringer and set up the phone tools to answer calls so I could have some peace and quiet and to screen out telemarketers, etc. My husband hated this( he's a trucker) and we had more than a few go-arounds about it. There were times he'd leave an "urgent" message to call him as soon as possible...but I'd return his call only to find out he just wanted to rant at me about something I'd done to "displease" him. Oh well...I don't have a problem using them to leave messages, especially in the evening when people need some quiet family time. I don't appreciate having our dinner hour interrupted by telemarketers.

My grandparents crack me up. They'll call me at home, but they won't leave a message. Then they'll dial me direct at work. If I don't answer, they won't leave a voice mail. Then they call my cell phone and don't leave a message.
When I walk back into the house from getting the mail, I have a message on my machine from my sister to call my grandparents and tell them I'm not dead.

Jim, that sounds like something out of a sitcom! That's so cute! :)
DarkInHere, you wouldn't be a construction super by any chance would ya? Just wondering because my hubby had a project manager that drove him up the wall! Yikes! {eek}
I don't like leaving messages on machines, but usually do. Don't like it simply because I assume someone is going to answer the phone when I call. I don't have what I was calling for all planned out in my head in "message" format. Usually end up sounding like an idiot... but generally get the message across amongst all the gibberish. ;)

I don't have any problem leaving a message on someones machine....but I think I do tend to tick people off when it comes to my own phone....I have caller ID, so if it says it's from "unavailable" I won't answer....I let the machine get it...for fear it is a telemarketer....I figure if It is someone I really want to talk to, they will leave a message, then I will pick the phone up. Saves alot of hassel that way, plus usually the caller ID will say who it is specifically so I know and can answer immmediately.

Hi Blinc
No, I work in a small software house outside London. The project manager has recently been promoted and is not settling in well at all.
Of course working with people like me doesn't help {good}
Debby, I like your way of thinking - I also do that with my mobile phone (when its switched on!) No number, no answer :)
