Tonight we have our annual family pumpkin carving night. I used to hate carving pumpkins when I was little, The smell of the pumpkin used to make me queasy, same with the feeling of the pumpkin guts. Now I look forward to it every year. It's become our tradition, and it's so much fun to watch the kids faces as they reach into a big ol' pumpkin full of sqishyness!

Nostalgia in the air .....
With both my kids gone, and not getting a chance to see my grandkids this weekend, I missed out on the pumpkin carving. I live out in the boonies, so I really don't do anything special for Halloween (no trick or treaters, and no one would see the decorations if I put them up).
But your post brought back the memory of squishalicious pumpkin guts, and carefully carving out awesome faces, then that ugly/yummy smell when you light the candle inside.
Bet you guys are having fun with your jack-o-lantern carving, and thanks for sharing the experience!

Kezzer,
We will be cutting our pumpkins tomorrow night. My husband and I started the tradition on our first Halloween together. We each have our own pumpkins and when our girls were borned we started doing one for them also. So this is our 24th Halloween and also our last as a whole family. Next Halloween both my girls will be gone, one in her own apartment the other in a different state in college. I guess after this year we will be back to just 2 pumpkins until I am blessed with grandchildren.
Nice to know other folks love traditions also.

We haven't started this with our 3-year-old yet. Probably next year. I like carving pumpkins too. I think Halloween is the second favorite holiday of the year for kids, right behind Christmas. You get to dress up, run up and down the street yelling, and eat lots of candy. What could be more fun?

toilet paper, egging houses... {rolleyes}
This year we carved a couple gourds along with the pumpkins... not those real little ones but the midsize, really tall ones so they look kinda droopy :) They came out really cool, but are hard as heck to keep standing straight up... have to put it in a margarine tub or something like that..

whew! What hard work that was! We did 4 and we have one left that we just didn't have the energy for. We carved a bat, a spider web,a tombstone, and an alien. It was funny and sqishtabulus! :)

We love to carve pumpkins! We usually do a couple every year - although like Ntexas, we live out in the boonies too. Well, even if no one else sees them, it's fun to do!
Ntexas, do you ever have years where either no one shows up, or else you get about a dozen? We always have PLENTY of candy bars on hand - the hubby says he really doesn't mind taking care of any leftovers. *roll eyes*
Yuh huh.
