Do you prefer cats or dogs?
I could do without either, but dogs are my favorite. They're always happy to see you, and they don't make my eyes itch and allergies go beserk.

I prefer cats, they are for the most part independant, usually don't jump up and lick you and much quieter.

Me too. Cats are quiet, serene and more huggable :)

It depends. I had the fortunate experience to have a wonderful, smart and friendly cat for 18 years. She passed away a little over a year ago, and we got a dog. I love my dog, but its a toss up. I think they're different kinds of pets. I definately like the low maintenance aspect of having a cat, but the attentiveness of the dog is great. My cat was very friendly and loving though. She was always curious and anxious to meet new people when they came over. If you had an empty lap, she wouldn't hesitate to jump on to it.

Cats are way better. They don't bark all the time and very rarely tear up everything in your house.

I like them both, but prefer cats. Dogs are too needy! No offence to anyone!

That wouldn't offend anyone. Now if you said that dog owners are too needy, that might. ;)

We have one cat and she is 10 years old. Miss Andy Renee Griffith. We also have one dog. He is a little schnauzer. Scooter Booter. My sister named him.
I have to honestly say I love cats more. They are quieter and cleaner. Plus Andy thinks she is human and the dog thinks he is the cat.

If I have to pick between cats and dogs, I gotta say cats ... even though my choice of pets are snakes and fish ;)

I have never owned a cat, but do love dogs. We have an 11 year old schnauzer, named "Baby" (no, I didn't come up with that name), and a 3 year old red heeler, named "Cowgirl". Our heeler adopted us right after we bought our ranch, someone dumped her out and we tried our best to ignore her so she would move on, but thank heaven she was persistant and we love her dearly. When we took her in to be spade and get her shots the vet told us she was about 4 months old and pretty much all red heeler. She has helped keep our 11 year old young, they run and play together constantly. Cowgirl works the cattle with us, which just amazes me... We are building a new house on our ranch, which I know most of you know, and the other day I went up on the hill to see what the worker's had accomplished for the day and 3 baby kittens were sitting on my driveway! They seemed much too small to be a way from their mother already, but they were precious. I didn't bother them and they haven't reappeared.
My biggest beef about animals in the house is "hair"! Schnauzer's don't shed, so I love that aspect. Red heeler's, do...bummer, but she still gets to come in and visit some. I have visited at other folks houses that have cats and they seems to climb all over the countertops and such, I think that would drive me nuts! Is there a way to break them of that? I think they are adoreable and would probably fall in love with one if I had one. I managed to fall in love with Black Brangus cattle and Texas Longhorns...not to mention my husband's Palamino house named Rowdy. Sometimes I feel like I live at a zoo, but it is fun and there is always something going on.
Yeah, the whole sanitation issue of cats on tables and kitchen countertops is a bit much for me. Maybe I just have friends with untrained cats.

I honestly don't know how our cat learned her boundaries. She doesn't climb where she shouldn't. She loves the back of the couch (if the curtain is open), any bed that is not occuppied, our closet way in the back under my clothes, our oldest daughters pillow at night and finally the dividing bartop between the kitchen and the laundry room. She is the best companion in the mornings when no one is up but she and I. She waits patiently while I put on the coffee. She knows the clink of the spoon and the sound the refrigerator makes as I pull her breakfast out. She beats a path to the laundry room where she waits for her meal. This is around 5 a.m. and after I feed her and go to work she tries to con our daughters into more canned cat food as they all trickle into the kitchen. You can hold out your hands in an open gesture and say," hold you??", and she will come if she wants to cuddle. She meets my hubby after work out in the yard by his work truck. But if you call, "kitty, kitty ,kitty," she won't come. The dog does. He sings and knows what vaccum means. You say, "vaccum" and point at the floor. Here he comes with his nose down and sniffing for the little bit of food. He knows his Nana and his Uncle Joe. He hates for our girls to sit by or on either one of them. It is hilarous. He tries to scoot them out of "his" place.
And if you catch the cat sleeping on the back of the sofa and the dog sleeping right under her, they will wake up and go their seperate ways. It is so cute. As if we caught them actually liking each other. Our dog is 4 years old and our cat is 10. The schnauzer came to us after a death in the family. And the cutest thing is when they play tag with each other. Our cat hides around a corner and will tap his rear end when he goes through the door.
I recommend pets to anyone. But then again we got lucky with these two. Their personality's are wonderful.

I was all cat person until we got our Shih Tzu puppies. And our seal point tortie.
Our Birman is very ladylike, and well-behaved, but the tortie knows no boundaries whatsoever. Both of them shed a whole lot. The Birman is more interactive with us than any cat I have ever had, and will come when we call her name (Baby Doll).
The dogs are about as independent as I've ever seen, and they do not shed, but need to be groomed. Frankly, it's a toss-up which is worst since I have to groom three dogs now where with other dogs a bath suffices. But, oh preserve me from Labs--I have never seen shedding like those dogs do. I have to wonder why they are not bald.

Cats rule, Dogs drool!! My kitty is a long-haired blue point Siamese. She's absolutely the most beautiful cat I've ever seen, and has a unique personality. I don't know what I'd do without her - she's my buddy!!

Our cat does not jump up on counters or tables. Not that I'VE ever seen. I don't go for that at all. She DOES at times drink for the toilet - can't figure THAT one out - but all in all, she's a great housemate.

Our cat loves to drink from a running water faucet. It is funny to watch. She loves the wet bathtub or shower. Andy will just lay in it.
