I just made reservations for a Bed & Breakfast where my friend and I will have our own room and have the B&B all to ourselves to celebrate her birthday (they only have 2 rooms in the main house). The owner of the B&B offered to make it special for us by making my friend a cake for her birthday- even asking what type of cake she likes.

She is also going to let us use the kitchen and store our food in the refridgerator - that may also be where the owners keep and prepare their own food.

We will be staying 2 nights and it will only be $45 per night for each room and a family style breakfast each morning is included. Does anyone know what kind of tip to give, if appropriate at all?

Thank you for your help!!!

Great question!

They certainly wouldn't be offended by it, but I doubt it is necessary. You might just ask if you can pay for the cake or pay extra for all of the special service.

It never hurts to say, "I've never stayed at a B&B. Would you do me the favor of educating me on tipping practices?"
