Hi!
I got a new hairstyle last week and my stylist made a touch-up appointment for me the this week, just to tweak with any problems that I may find the after wearing my new style for a few days. I tipped her 20% the first time, and really do like my cut. However, do I tip on my follow-up visit? I assume not, but she does do a good job and I've never returned to a salon for the same cut - I don't want to make an etiquette faux pas. Does anyone have experience and/or suggestions? Thank so much!

Great question!
You tip the stylist a percentage, so if you're not paying anything for the follow-up, I wouldn't tip anything either. In this instance, the price for the follow-up was included in the original charge; hence, your tip was included in the original tip.
If you are paying for the follow-up, then tip the same percentage.

One can never be too sure these days ... I'm in the service industry myself, and know how important tipping knowledge is for the general public - inadvertently stiffing someone is the last thing I would want to do - we live off those tips!
Thanks again!

I would say it depends on why the stylist scheduled the visit. If the stylist shceduled the visit because he/she is not sure they did a good job? Why should you tip? You did say and I quote "to tweak any problems I may find". If the stylist scheduled the visit because you are very particular and he/she knows you are sure to find something that you want adjusted then I would consider tipping your stylist for taking the time from their busy schedule to appease you. In other words, if your stylist did a good job and you want your hair a little shorter, you decided you want bangs, etc., then I would recommend tipping. Another thought would be that you put yourself in your stylist shoes and consider how you would view the situation.

It seems to me that a follow up visit could be done via the phone. If you need to come in then she/he could schedule it then if not it leaves a slot open for someone needing full service of the salon.

I always thought that for the ladies, the salon trip was just about as much for the gossip as the haircut.
