I got this question by email: In you section on weddings, you covered all but the wedding planner. Should the planner be included as a person to tip if she goes over and beyond what was expected of her? If so how should you figure the proper amount?

The email box of the person was full, so here is the answer:You don't tip the wedding planner. In fact, sometimes the wedding planner distributes the tips for you. It's really her job to go above and beyond. Her goal is to take care of things so that you don't have to.
If you want to do something anyhow, then a small gift would be nice. Just make it something special, not something everyone else probably gives her. If you know her well enough to know her interests or favorite dining spots, take this into consideration.
One of the best things you can do for a wedding planner is recommend her to as many people as possible. She'll make a lot more money doing another wedding than getting a tip.
