I love our caller ID box. But it comes with a curse when it is in the hands of the wrong type of owner. I guess you could say this is just one of my many pet peeves about rude phone calls. If you want to know the person behind the strange phone number in your caller ID box just remember to be polite when you call them. You just might get someone on the other end who will screech back at you when you demand to know who they are and why their number is on the screen. I know I will get rude with people who do that. Where have manners gone? Another good thing to remember is that everyone dials a wrong number at one time or another. The woman who called my house tonight was downright rude with me. I turned the tables by asking her the very same questions she asked me.
WHO IS THIS???
WHY ARE YOU CALLING MY PHONE??
When I had her flustered she actually told me her story. I did not apologize for how I treated her. She never apologized for being rude. The mystery was solved and it could have all been handled more civilly from the getgo. Manners are never out of fashion.

It's funny how paranoid people are.

This is not the first time we have had someone call all ballistic. I was ready for the second caller. She was not ready for me. We just ignore the unknown numbers that do register. Delete them and move on. Probably just a misdialed number, certainly not something to obsess over.
Yep in so many words I agree Jim. *LOL* You can't accuse me of being short with my words.

I had a situation when I was teaching school a few years ago that was interesting. You can actually "block" caller ID by somehow programming your phone to show a different name and number than your own.
There was a third grader who had bullied some of the younger children in my class. His father called to get on my case about correcting this aggressive child (the father is a survivalist and believes that aggressiveness is entirely appropriate and called for, and his son has some psychological problems so people should cut him a lot more slack). The kid was downright violent.
I called the number that was on my Caller ID, and it wasn't this family. I looked up their number in the school directory, called and said I would have returned the call a bit sooner but for some reason the number on my Caller ID was different from their actual number.
That started off a dressing down from this father for using my Caller ID for screening calls (which I did do, but not on that particular occasion). I was blown away.

I see that as totally different than just calling a stranger out of the blue with an attitude as if the misdialed number was not an accident but someone stalking you.
I bet those kinds of parents could be down right scary. Makes you feel for their children. They won't know how to function in the real world.
The reason he reprimanded you is that you have a moral obligation to talk to everyone who calls you on the phone. If you don't believe me, check 2 Hezekiah 3:8.

Doesn't he have a moral obligation to give the correct phone number?
I called the number that was on my Caller ID, and it wasn't this family.
Why should anyone take a reprimanding from someone who is not above suspicion themselves? Isn't that kinda like trying to pluck the log out of your brothers eye before taking the splinter out of yours?

No, he doesn't have a moral obligation to do so. See also 1 Hezekiah 14:20.
BTW, for the casual observer, there is no such book of the Bible. Alec was picking the bugger out of his friend's nose before tuning a fish. No, he was leading a horse to water, but he couldn't make him walk on it. No, he was casting the first rolling stone uphill, but he kept his nose to the wheel while gathering moss.
Did I get that right? 30 lashes with a wet noodle for Alec. {smash}{smash}{smash}

"Moral obligations" indeed! {angel2}
I am not prone to jump at the phone the first time it rings anyhoo. That's my husband's job (see 2 Hezekiah 6:4).
In fact, I've avoided being connected to the world by cell phone up until very recently. There are just some times when I don't want to be available. I only got the cell phone because of needing to be available to my mom. I gave the number to a very few, select people who had to promise me their right arm in retribution if they passed it on to anyone else. Those people are my husband, daughters, son, and the few people who take a helping hand in taking care of my mother.
As far as this father-son duo was concerned...the school I worked for was a private school, and teachers were required to be available between the hours 4-7 p.m. in case the parents had any questions.

I thought be honest with your fellow man was a moral obligation. When did lying become acceptable?

Evidently moral laws don't apply if you're living in a bunker.

Isn't that the whole point of caller ID? I sometimes remember to check mine for incoming calls that I've missed, but not often! {oops}

Edith wasn't so bad--as long as she wasn't singing.

I kinda think caller ID is an invasion of privacy....
I've heard of people getting MODIFIED boxs that ignore that first character (That makes the unit say 'PRIVATE') and they see your # anyway.....

I think if you want to contact me anonymously you can send me a letter. If you are going to call me, I want to know who it is before I answer the call.

We had a lot of problems at one time, and I didn't answer the phone unless I recognised the number. They could leave a message if they were real.
I don't worry so much now ... but we're ex-directory, and listed with telephone preferences. :)

Yes indeed, the perfect partner. There when needed, silent when not. Always honest and truthful. Never forgets a friend. Protective and thoughtful.
Are we sad, or what?
