I have a cat that lives at my parents house that is 17 years old. I have a dog who is 14. My hubby heard about a cat who passed on about 6 months ago who was about 33 years old. Can you imagine!!! I personally think that is a long time for a cat!! How old is old for an animal??? I know tortoises live for ever!! Well not really, but hundreds of years. Parrots can live about as long as a human. What do you consider old in an animal?

I've heard of cats around 17 before but 33 is awesome! Guess it would depend on the breed on how old is real old. Would love to get a Great Dane someday, but have heard they only live to about 7 or 8. Don't know if I could handle losing one that soon. We have a cocker spaniel "Hockey" that is 12 and still going strong.

Many many cats reach their 20's. I think that the average for a cat today is 17. The oldes cat on record was a mixed breed from the UK. I think she was 35 or 36 when she died, I don't remember exactly. She's in the Guiness book of records for that :)

Not so long ago, the average lifespan for cats was only 13-14 but thath increased thanks to better nutrition and medical care. If you feed your cat good quality food and keep her indoors in good conditions, you can expect at least 15-16 good years and very often even more than that.

I don't know about dogs, but I have heard that the larger breeds live shorter lives.

The oldest dog that I've heard of lived to be 29 years old. It was in the Guinness Book of World Records.

A kitty living to be 33??

That is amazing indeed!

That would make her 297 years old!! (9 years per our 1 year right?)
