I know I've told the story of my six inherited stray cats....well, today I need to take at least 2 of them in to get fixed. Skiddle is one of my favorites and pretty sure she is already pg. Alley Cat is my male and is probably why Skiddle is in the condition she is in. I just dread taking them in to be fixed, but I have to. I'm afraid they will hate me and run away!!! Then I have to take the others in, too or I am going to have cats coming out my ears!!!! I'm trying to get the courage to at least start with Skiddle and Alley Cat, today!!!! I just dread it, so much!

Best thing we ever did for Miss Andy, Beck. They will be healthier. They won't get sexual diseases. They will want to stay home more.

Thanks, guys, for the support. Looks like we will wait and give it a try tomorrow. We have a 100% chance of rain (which we need) tomorrow, so DH said it would be a good time to do it then. You would think I was taking them in to be put to sleep or something, don't know why it is so upsetting to me!

Took Skiddle in today and got her stitches out, she was such a good girl!!! Now, I have to do something with the other 5, one of which is a Tom cat and the vet told me he wouldn't need stitches (well, that's a relief...lol), the boy's always get off easier, huh?

I thought they used self-dissolving stitches (I think that's what they're called) ... at least around here they do. {fonzy}
They should give you a Discount for so many of them. ;)

I tried to get a discount, but didn't make any headway on that deal! I asked today why don't you use dissolving stitches, so I don't have to bring them back, he said that a cat's tongue is so rough they lick the stitches right out!!! Made sense after I asked him. He also told me on the one's I am going to have to trap (I have 2 that will let me touch them, but I wouldn't dare try to pick them up and put them in my carrier) that I can leave the stitches in them and they should do fine, so think I will do that on the wilder ones. I'm not too happy about all the money it is costing, but they are here and I have been feeding them, so I need to take care of them and try to prevent more kittens. They also need, at least, their rabies shot being out in the country.....it never ends!!! I managed to find a good home for 2 of them, so the rest are mine, it looks like and I am attached to them, especially, Skiddle!!!

I always thought the stitches where on the inside, but I never had a cat spayed before, so I dunno {toothy}

No, you can see them, and if I had been brave enough Ray and I probably could have removed them, there was nothing to it!!!! But, I wasn't brave...

It's hard when you're attached to your pet and you know what you are about to put them through. There is no way they can understand why.{no}
When my husband and I got our first cat it was a big deal. Kind of like having our first baby. We used to talk about him enough that everyone knew when Rocky's big day was coming to get "fixed". Rocky got his first piece of mail that week. We never found out who sent the anonomous letter warning: "Rocky, Rocky, Watch out... {yikes2} your owners have evil plans for you!!!!!"
We kept the letter, but no one ever admitted sending it.

How funny, Misse!!! I guess we will try and keep Alley Cat's up coming day quiet, as to not embarrass him too much!!! lol

Wonder if cats realize what's going on ... and if they're mad after they get fixed ...

You might be right ... I always heard it's better if you let them have one litter before you get them fixed, supposed to make the cats nicer. I don't see it though. Especially the male cats, they say the cats calm down ofter they get *snip snip* ... boy, are they wrong, mine got worse ...

I can't believe you are going to let them whack her with a spade (http://www.answers.com/spade) to prevent pregnancies. Maybe you should just have her spayed (http://www.answers.com/spayed). ;)

Grimey, what would I do without you!!! lol I honestly did know that should have been spayed...good grief, I need to slow down!!! Heading to the vet this minuted and I won't let them whack her, I promise!!!! :o] Noseypoo, the last one I took in, Skiddle was pg also, they get pg so fast I can't stay on top of it!!! They charge more when they are pg, and I hate to do it, but I cannot afford more kittens, have my hands full!!! :(
Grimey, bet you thought I'd had too many loggers (lagers) if I was taking my kitty in to be spade (spayed)...{rofl}

Well, I took little Mattie in and she was so frightened the pupil of her eyes almost covered her entire eye area...makes me so sad. I know she will be better off for it, though. The one I took in first, Skiddle is doing fantastic, she's loving her freedom...{rotflmbo} She is actually much more playful than before, so guess she just feels great!!! Hope Mattie is that way, too, when she gets home Wednesday!!! {quiver}

Oh my gosh I bet he comes back with an attitude for a while. Good luck Beck. I keep reminding my daughter that when my grand kitties are 6 months old she needs to go have them fixed.

Six months is a perfect age, JAW and believe me, I am living proof that they can get PG at that age very quickly!!! So tell her to get on it, or you'll have more grandkitty's to play with...lol

Having your cats fixed is the best thing for them and you!! A female cat can get pregnant immediately after she has her litter of kittens. Unless you plan on breeding your cats, you are doing the right thing.
There are lots of statistics on the over population of cats without homes. Thousands of unwanted kittens and cats are put down every day. Its so sad.
My husband recently rescued a pure white kitten (7 weeks old) from work. Her name is Lily. I was so happy we were able to keep her. WE have one other cat and one dog. Three pets are alot for us, but I love animals.
Hope fixing all your cats is'nt breaking your pocket book. It can get expensive.
Cheers.

Hi, Blondie, nice to meet you. Glad to see you are posting on FD, I bet you will really enjoy all the nice folks you will come to know that post on here.
I agree with you regarding the cat situation. They are mostly feral cats and I've had 2 spade, but the others are too wild for me to pick up. It's still a big problem for me, so far I just keep feeding them and loving on them, but eventually I have got to come to a solution, I can't just keep having kittens. I really appreciate your interest and concern. I bet your new kitty is a little doll and she is one lucky cat to have found you guys!!!
