View Full Version : my rant about the cost of free speech
DataJack
05-04-2005, 04:27 PM
this is the cost of free speech...to be held accountable for what we say.
to say there are no repercussions for what we say or type is like covering our eyes and saying...if i can't see it, it can't see me.
there have been times on this forum where i was out of place and was held accountable for it...and i agree with this accountability.
when i make a post and say something that people disagree with and they post back what they feel it would be very easy for me to not reply or just forget the post exists.
i believe however that this forum is a meeting place of minds seeking not only knowledge but a break from the real world.
the break for me however does not go all the way into fantasy and i will hold myself responsible for what i post and will try to clarify my thoughts to some one who replies to my posts.
i come here because there are a lot of very smart people that post here and even though some of our veiws may be radical in difference, we are all basicly the same when it comes to how we treat each other.
that treatment is what is called the basic respect everyone should hold for another person...and i have failed in that even here on this forum...but again...i was held accountable for it.
bottom line is i will stand by what i say here...and if people want to hold me accountable for it that is fine by me...no hard feelings if they do hold me accountable.
so if anyone wants to debate scripture with me or just " chew the fat " so to speak thats fine...but don't run and hide...teach me if i am mistaken...explain to me how i am mistaken..and feel good about giving some one accurate knowledge that may save their life or soul...
thankyou
I'm not real fond of debating. It seems like most people (including me) are more interested in being right than being educated. We're more interested in sharing our viewpoint than understanding others'.
so if anyone wants to debate scripture with me or just " chew the fat " so to speak thats fine...but don't run and hide...teach me if i am mistaken...explain to me how i am mistaken..and feel good about giving some one accurate knowledge that may save their life or soul...
It seems like you are still annoyed with Grimey. "run and hide" sounds like a cheap shot at him. He is not morally obligated to debate with you. You appear to be trying to harrass or goad him back into the debate. You need to let it go, man.
Your 4th or 5th post (http://frappydoo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3726) was your introduction where you said that "all of us here believe in god, jesus, and the holy spirit..." This isn't a Christian board. We have members that are atheists, witches, Jews, etc. We even have a mod that is an atheist. Most of the people here just like to have fun and make friends. It kind of seems like you joined here because you thought it was a Christian board and wanted to debate your beliefs that according to you "will probably upset many people." Well, you've picked the wrong place if that is your goal. Frappydoo is a general interest board. If you want to debate theology, there are a lot of boards more oriented to that than frappydoo.
I'm glad you're here, but not if you just joined with an agenda to "upset many people." That's not what frappyland is about, IMO.

I have to agree Alec. If anyone would bother to actually look at the threads here on Frappyland you would notice that the silly threads outway the political/religious serious stuff by a landslide. Why? Geez Jack that should tell you that yes we all may be intelligent and can debate but we come here to have fun. When you don't let an issue go and respect someone's decision not to debate with you, then you take the fun out of it. Have you noticed how folks don't post when you go overboard? Take the hint and lighten up. IF you want to debate theology and get down and dirty then find another forum to bounce those things around in. But come here to have fun and not to goad someone into a mudslingin' debate about whose idea of religion is right or wrong. I don't think Christ would do that. He stated the truth and then left it up for us to decide. We all get where you are coming from, now respect everyone's right to not debate how they believe. No one here owes you an explanation of why we believe the way we do. Maybe if you went back and actually read Grimey's posts you would see He did tell you exactly what he bases his beliefs on. You just don't want to accept it.

like i said...i take responsibility for what i post..and i have been wrong on some things....but on this i am not wrong because i did not point out any one person...alec did that. what i was doing was letting people know what MY views were on free speech and what i would do or say here i would accept responsibility here...tell me please alec...what makes Grimey so important that i have to make a post about him...the problem with any forum is that its the typed word and no emotion or body language can be seen. if you could have seen my body language or heard the emotion you would have seen that Grimey was not the object of my so called lack of affection. Grimey if you think this post is about you i am sorry....its not...
alec...what went on at sineaters can stay there...i have gone back to view it but i will not be posting there again...unless pack momma or someone else says something...as far as this being a christian forum i stand corrected on that...but in the christian threads is where i meant my views may upset some people. please do not think i joined to just upset people...i joined primarily because of what i saw being wrote here and people were not sheep...
i guess that peoples skins are too thin and i should hold my views to myself...that way i will be one of the so called sheep who follows with no idea where i am going.again the bottom line comes to this...what i post i am responsible for and anyone posting a reply to my post deserves an answer...its called respect...and i respect the right for all of us to have different views and be able to express them...but once expressed we either explain our selves or do not express them...after all..we all post hoping some one will reply and we can get into a debate of sorts...
my intent is not to make people upset...but to have them think on what i say...lol..even if it is for only one second...every post i have read here has made me think...i am trying to return the favour.
if anyone takes any type of offence to my posts...offending you was not my intent...having you think about what i have to say and posting back so i may think on what you have to say is/was my intent.
i will/am saying sorry to all who i have offended.
and even if people refuse to like me here thats fine...its still a GREAT forum and makes me think and yes change some of my veiws...ty for a great forum folks.
p.s. i got me a great little spell checker that loads right into my internet explorer...my spelling mistakes will go down if i remember to use it...

Jack, I pretty much agree with everything the other's have stated above. I don't reply to your posts, they are much too heavy for me and I don't like to debate most things, especially religion. I learned a long time ago it is okay to say where you stand on religion, plant a seed and then let it grow. Sometimes folks are more tuned off, by some long drawn out debate...the majority of us come on FrappyDoo to just chill out and have some fun after a long day, I know that's why I am here. You need to enjoy just chilling out with us and have some fun, everything does not have to be debated to death! We pretty much know how you feel about things and respect that, so you have to, in return, respect us, too. Okay..................just have some fun on here, you might like it, okay (but let's not debate whether you like it or not...j/k...lol)!!!

Wow, What a thread, (indeed we seem to be continuing the contravesial one since most of us are here talking about the same thing lol) This time,
rather than stirring the pot, which we all know I am quite capable of doing, allow me to try to act the role of peacemaker)
I see the points everyone has made, and each of them is valid in their own context and point of view. Now let's consolidate those points....which, Beck, I think you did nicely above.
l. if it gets too hot to handle, don't listen, walk away, no one is forcing anyone to listen or comment to anything (oh yes, walk away Without the last word!)
2. there are only 2-3 contraversial hot spots on frappy, and lots and Lots of fun stuff. go there to unwind instead of making yourself upset. No one is twisting anyones arm to "go get heated up" If you can TAKE the heat as well as Dish It Out, then go for it and remember to play nice.

Cowboys make more sense than that, well, unless they have chew in their jaw. Jack was trying to write like a child who has to sound out the words or at least that is what I thought because of the previous posts made to him. Could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time.

Yep you asked Noseypoo and I don't think Lino would like my idea of sports, cars, and what I do to please my hubby. If he stays out of my way I am pleased, he is pleased, the whole house is happy. If he keeps my oil changed, I keep the car washed, I am pleased, he is pleased, the whole house is happy. If he lets me watch Pro Rodeo and Nascar, I am pleased, he is pleased, the whole house is happy and in turn he gets football in the fall. As long as he can hit the dirty clothes hamper his laundry gets done. If not I am pleased I have that much less to do. I work outside the house, he works outside the house....My philosophy," I did not create this entire family by myself or the mess that came with it. Get up off your duff and help if you want more out of me than a grumpy ole lady."
But really though I ain't that bad. I tend to stick to myself. They all know it's best to just let Momma alone most days. {evil} {rotflmbo}
