I thought it would be nice for us to have a thread where we can discuss some of the "good old days" (LOL) and things we remember from childhood that maybe aren't the same now, or things we used to have that we can't get now... for example....I used to love saving my money to buy a 45 record!! I still have them all!! (I even have a few 8 tracks from when I was in Jr. High) and does anyone remember the candy bar called the Marathon bar? It was really long and thin, shaped in a twist like a braid, and was chocolate covered caramel. It was the best...wonder why they quit making them? Anyone remember knickers? Back when I was 14, they were the hot thing to wear!! Anyone else have any fond memories of childhood?

are you kidding me?!
of course!!!!
Do you remember Boston Baked Beans, Lemon Heads, those wax juice bottles with real juice in them, rootbeer barrels, pixie sticks...etc.....OMG, do you remember when you could take fifty cents to the store and buy a whole, huge bag of penny candy?!?
How about The Bay City Rollers??
remember that group? My sister still has all thier original LPs.
I remember knickers! I hated wearing them, but mom bought them all the time!
Remember those quilted bathrobes from the 70's and 80's?
they were long and zipped up the front...they looked like a quilt grandma made. I hated those too.
Boy, we had some weird stuff when we were kids!

What a fun thread, thanks Debby. I remember all those things. I also kept my 45's. My husband and I were just talking about this this weekend. How we use to turn in coke bottles and for a nickel we could buy all kinda things. I loved getting Archie comicbooks.

I remember wearing go-go boots and fish net hose. Also they had this candy that was in the shape of a corn on the cob. Inside the sucker they had hidden a penny. We would buy this sucker and then use the penny for another piece of candy. Also they had these suckers that would have a piece of paper on the back that said if you won a free sucker or not. We would spend a fortune trying to get 1 free sucker.

Aag! Go go boots and fish net hose, yikes, I remember those CJ!

45's yep, "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies, was one of the first ones I owned.

What about fringed leather jackets and vests?
Hoola hoops?
Super balls?
Peace signs on everything, along with the smiley faces?
Leather strips worn around the head? Across the forehead?
Vietnam POW/MIA bracelets?
Dopers were called "freaks" and everything was "cool man".
Groovy?
Lincoln logs? Pick up sticks?
Bell bottoms?
Mini, maxi and midi skirts?
Banana seats on a stingray bicycle was THE COOLEST MAN!
Pet rocks?
Gas was .29 cents a gallon?
ELO?

Arrgh... didn't realize how old I was. *sigh* Excuse me, time for my arthritis and anti-senility meds.
*roll eyes*

Oh wow, POW/MIA braclet. I wore one of those until the day my soldier came home. He was MIA and they gave you a sticker star when your came home to put on the bracelet. Wow I had forgotten all about that.

Make peace not war.
Conserve on water share a shower

My room was covered with peace signs and smiley faces that glowed in the dark and I had the ever popular black light.

I also had a bean bag.

Sugar, Sugar I have that 45 also.

Leather fringe jackets and boot yeah, and I also had the purse.

Do you remember making purses from your old blue jeans? You just cut off the legs and sewed them shut then made your strap from the legs.

Remember when you went to the salvation army to get your jeans no one would be caught dead in new ones. Also you wore them about 6 inches too long and wore out the bottom back of them.

Memories :)

Ugh, don't people realize that even though foot-long candy bars only cost a nickel, people made a lot less in salary? :P

Heck, even I remember lemon heads - and I've seen bell-bottoms.

We can still get lemonheads and Boston baked beans here, and yes I remember the wax bottles with the liquid in them!! Remember wax lips?? And the Bay city rollers were a fav of mine back then...Saturday night was the best song! I remember when the bee-gees were the hot group, and I still like them! I used to have Andy Gibb posters covering my walls as a teenager, and Scott Baio, Robby Bensen, Tony Danza....etc..... and the shoes!!! Oh my gosh I can't beleive clogs are back in style after all these years...eeech!!!

Oh Debby, I can see by your posters in your room I am older than you.

In my room I had pictures of the lead singer from Herman Hermits and Paul Revere and the Raiders.

And remember the two saddest movies ever: Love Story and Romeo and Juliet (the one from the 70's).

Hey, that just reminded me...does anyone remember 'Candies'...those wooden shoes?

CJ, I'm so glad to hear your guy made it back safe. {hug} A couple friends of my older brother, (they were a few years older then he was) were sent over there. One didn't make it back and the other one was really not right after that. Was your guy ok emotionally?

Karen, yep remember those leather boots and those ankle breaking clogs! Yikes!

TWT, I think we're talking about bell bottoms the FIRST time they became popular. WE'RE OLD!!! {toothy} CJ is so right, they had to drag the ground in the back to be really cool!!

Oh my gosh Karen, I still have my old shaun cassidy album!! (Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron) And Leif Garret also graced the walls of my bedroom! LOL....I saw him on a VH1 "Where are they now" special...and he looks AWFUL now!! And "Candies" were the hip high heels all us girls wanted back then!! And didn't M-factor also do that crazy song..."Pop Music"? I had that on a 45, and loved it!!!!! Wow things have changed sooo much!!! Oh, and when I was in about sixth or seventh grade...my all time idol was Donnie Osmond!!! I had a sweatchirt with his face on it, and several albums, and the Donnie and Marie dolls, and even a pair of knee high purple socks with his picture on them(guess his favorite color was purple) and everything was gross! (my favorite word back then!!! ) LOL!!!!!

Yes Debby,
It was Popmusic! I had it on 45 too.....I had hundreds of 45's back then and now I can't remember which ones they were. My sister has them all now. She kept all my old (good) stuff, when my mom kicked me out of the house. That was when I was like 17.....and she still has it all to this day! She lives right up the road, but we don't really speak.
I WANT MY STUFF BACK!!! {bawling}

Hey I saw that VH1 special too...Leif was talking about how he got into this accident because he was drinking and driving and he crippled his best friend. They were reunited on the show....and he apologized to him.
How awful!

Donny Osmond eh?
OMG! Those teeth....that smile....AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!

I remember when my sister had an 8-track player.

I had a tape of Kiss, the one with Beth and Detroit Rock City. Yikes. That was like 1976-77. I was a whopping 10 or 11 years old.
