This ticks me off to no end... sitting there watching a movie and all of a sudden the volume level explodes. It feels like my eardrums are going to rupture! WHY the producers think we can't understand the effect they are going for without destroying our hearing is something that REALLY GETS TO ME!!! ARRRGGGHHH!!! {flame}

Something else that really bothers me is WHY does there always seem to be some kind of gratuitous nudity? Usually involving a female, of course. Hardly ever has anything to do with the actual movie (that would make too much sense evidently), it's just there. Like they think they HAVE to put it in.

ARRGH! What bothers you?

I know what you mean about the volume. You have to crank the tv to hear what the actors are saying, then you get a comercial or in a movie you get music and you're being blared out of your house!!!

We've gotten to the place where we just listen to it loud. It is very annoying.

I guess the nudity only bothers us my friend!
I hate it too Blinc....it seems they can't make a movie without sticking a naked woman in it.
Whether it is a comedy, drama, action, horror or whatever...they feel it is necessary to have a nude woman.
It drives me crazy...especially when hubby and I are sitting there watching a movie with our 12 year old son. We don't expect to see a naked body, because the movie has nothing to do with it, but BOOM...there it is!
I feel so uncomfortable watching it, while he is sitting there looking at it...I feel like I have to start talking or something, or get up and do something to kind of take attention off the movie.

You know what they say Blinc....Sex sells these days....this is what the ppl want.
some of them anyway!

Yes it is very annoying. Especially if I watch tv in bed. Bill (the Hubby) falls asleep a lot easier then I do, so sometimes I watch tv while waiting for the Tylenol PM to kick in... try to keep it low enough that I can hear (barely) what the actors are saying, then like Kezzer says, they blast you with music, or explosions... ARRGHH!!

Ok, I'm editing this in... Karen and I seem to be cross posting today and responding to things at the same time. I didn't see your post Karen til after mine popped up. But YES, that's exactly what I'm talking about. For gosh sakes, the way they insert the nude shots is ridiculous. It must be horrible having children and trying to keep them from being exposed to stuff. Can't believe what's being shown on regular tv nowdays... let alone the pay movie channels like HBO, Starz, etc.

I missed the nudity part of the thread. My wife and I try not to see or rent movies with any nudity in them. It drives me nuts how someone will make a perfectly good movie and show one nudie scene.

We are also tired of the cursing. We watch a lot of very good classic movies where there is almost no cursing at all. The movies are still entertaining and worth watching.

The nudity is everywhere - absolutely everywhere. I'm sure for a few select movies it enhances the film, or at least increases some kind of feeling - after all nudity is in the real world, and such would be in movies as well.

However many are pointless - let's face it, if a guy gets the vibe he'll see someone famous naked from the trailer, he's 60-70% more likely to go see the flick. It's the way we're built, and the marketers know that.

So there isn't any question as to why they do it that way - they do it to make money. Is it immoral? Most of the time, it certainly is.

I realize I am adding my two cents worth late on this subject but here goes anyway. I am fed up with the nudity on tv and the movies. My husband and I have gotten to the point that we have to watch all movies before our daughter can go near the tv. We have been caught completly dumb struck during a movie that flashes graphic nudity with our daughter sitting right beside us. No matter how fast we move we can't get the remote found in time to save a small piece of her innocence. Children grow up way too fast in this age. Unfortunately as parents our hands may as well be bound behind us.

Oh BTW: in case anyone was wondering how nudity can have a place in any movie, I'd have to mention the film "The Devil's Advocate" - my parents had me look away during the end of the last scene (Pacino's big rant - what a speech!), so it was obvious what was going on, and from that alone it felt as if it fit the movie - it, for some reason, seemed in place with the movie on the whole, and probably made it better.

I could be wrong. I maintain that 99.9% of all nudity in movies is un-necessary, but yes, it does have its place.

What really irritates me, is that it seems to be perfectly fine to flash a nude woman on the screen in the middle of any given movie....but they have laws about that when it comes to men....can only show the rear view. Why is a womans modesty less important??? And I hate having to sit there with my hubby as he watches some full body, up and down shot of a nude woman....okay...I get jealous!! Geesh! It isn't fair!!!

Bottom line is everything is going to the dogs today!!!

Terminator 1 and 2 were EXCELLENT for example, the audio was good,etc......

Terminator 3 sucks!!!!! -- The levels are WAY TOO HOT!!!! -- You can hear the distortion as it over modulates,etc........

Almost everything today is garbage compared to what it was in the 80s and before, people doing as little as they can but still charge you what they used to FOR GOOD QUALITY even know its garbage.... http://www.frappydoo.com/forum/images/smilies/flamer.gif

ditto on all of the above.

I'm also annoyed by the amount of blood and guts, waaaay to graphic all the way around. I love a good action flick, but lets get real. I'm sure we all have enough imagination to know what happens, we don't need a graphic display. Also love a good romance flick, but for crying out loud I don't need to be a stinking voyer. Sci-fi and mystery, yeah, but spare me the body parts. Absolutely refuse to watch anything even remotely horror.

And they can't figure out why there are so many sick crimes on the rise?
DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like watching Mythbusters. It shows how a lot of the stuff in movies isn't realistic. For example, getting shot by a gun will not knock you back off your feet. However, you can dodge bullets by going only about 4-5 feet deep in the water.

I agree with blinc's first post - I'm tired of the volume changes during a show or movie.

However, you can dodge bullets by going only about 4-5 feet deep in the water. They also disproved the long-held myth that sticking your finger into the barrel of a gun would cause the explosion to back-fire onto the person shooting. They do good work.

As for my pet-peeves: I've already posted a thread about "Unrated" versions of movies, just because they don't have the integrity to have it rated NC-17.

The only other thing that I'm sick of (though not really angry about) is cliche subjects. I'm tired of movies where the girl is ugly with low self-esteem, and then gets a make-over and because stunningly beautiful. I'm tired of movies where a relationship is based on a lie, it turns into true love, the lie is discovered, and after some short contriversy they all live happily ever after. I'm tired of movies about dogs. I'm tired of animals/babies that talk. I'm tired of Rob Schneider pretending to be other creatures/genders. And, I'm tired of Disney movies in which the under-dog wins the big game.

Other than that, I'm pretty easy going.

What bothers me is the nudity as well.It seems they cant make a decent movie anymore without flashing a pair of boobs in there. They ruin a great movie with its useless nudity just to sell it to the public.I have lost my intrest in watching movies these days, i barely want to go see any movies anymore, maybe one here and there but i always check to see if it has nudity in it before I go see it.
I dont like the idea of my fiancee seeing all these women walk around naked. One it degrades women and the fact they wont do male frontal nudity but they will show almost every part of a women, that is not fair at all.
The movie industry has gone to the crapper and i tend to only like to watch classic films that were around before all this distasteful mess.I mean i love horror movies for the blood and gore but i dont go to see them for a pair of breast..
Come on!!!

Its sickening!!!!

You obviously won't get an argument from me.

The reason they show women naked more than men is because it sells movies for men, but it doesn't really help sales for women.

sadly that is the case and doesnt seem that it will ever change cause society keeps promoting it, i wont help the industry i refuse to rent or pay to see movies like that..
