Check out my new article about safety hazards for cats during Christmas time. Most of it applies to dogs as well.
Have a safe and happy Christmas!

Some really great tips there Anat. Especially the not giving puppies/kittens as gifts. UNLESS IT IS PREARRANGED and the person knows and wants the "gift"!! You're so right - too many pets are turned over to shelters once the cute puppy/kitten stage is over. It's a shame that more people don't realize getting a pet IS a life-long committment. Pets aren't toys to be discarded once the "fun" of being new has worn off. Really good advice about the water for the tree too! You're just full of good info! :)

great article Anat!
It's difficult to keep cats/kittens away from Xmas trees....they like to play with all the hanging things.
On the news the other day, they were talking about that and the woman said to put up a child proof gate around the tree....well, how tacky is that?!
who wants a gate around their tree?
and besides, cats can jump pretty high anyhow.....so what good is the gate?
On that same news article, was a cat who had just gotten out of surgery for swallowing a bunch of that silver icicles thingys that ppl hang on their tree...that cat almost died!
People please!
If you have pets, PLEASE, don't use those icicles on your tree!!
