Argh! My lips have just been so chapped this year.I've been using all sorts of lip balms and medications, But no matter what I do they just keep getting chapped. Then they get to the point where they are cracked and bleeding. Anytime I eat or drink something salty or acidic they feel like they are about to burn off of my face!I'm going crazy, I need new lips! Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do?

I get chapped lips easily if I don't keep something on them. I always keep some kind of very moisturizing lip balm or lipstick on. Always. Carry it in my pockets whenever we go anywhere. Especially out fishing... between the sun, wind and salt air if I didn't have something on it would make me nuts!!

Do you lick your lips alot? If you do, that may be part of the problem. The vaseline intensive care tube of stuff works pretty good, but for me I've found lipstick actually seems to work better. Just get a shade that almost matches your lip color exactly and you can't really even tell most times you're wearing lipstick... also, make sure it's a special moisturizing type. That's all I can think of.

When my kids get chapped lips that crack, etc., I force them to slather on a sickening amount of Vaseline on their lips (and around the mouth, past the lips) right before bedtime. I threaten them with bodily injury if they wipe it off or lick it off.

9 times outta 10, by morning the cracked lips are gone. They hate doing it, but it's the only thing that works. Anything I've tried during the day (for me OR for them) gets licked off or comes off when eating or drinking. But you can't slather on Vaseline in gross amounts during the day, so we do this at night instead.

I've been lathering them with, lip balm, blistex and last night I even tried Bag balm. They are still chapped and cracked. I'll have to try vaseline, that's the only thing I haven't tried.

Oh. You changed it. I was wondering when I became Jim. Did I get promoted? Am I now the owner of this place? Cool!

Since I am now the owner of the forum, I'm going to make a few changes around here. First, I am renaming the forums to DrappyFoo! Second, I am...hey...hey...get away from me...no...I don't want to go back to the hospital. {smash} {smash} {smash}

Great, I leave the forum for four hours, and there is an attempted revolution. Everybody relax. It appears that the men in the white coats have escorted RoadRunner back to the hospital to get his meds. {dizzy}

Ah yes, a day that goes down in forum history. The day Roadrunner tried to take over the forum. Poor guy, those guys in the white coats weren't very gentle.

Of course, all that biting and kicking he was doing didn't help any. {toothy} Maybe we could give him a temporary title just to soothe his frazzled nerves when he gets back from the hospital. make him owner for a day?
course, we couldn't really let him at the control panel, he'd have purple elephant smilies all over the place

:) They come to you too RoadRuner? Wow! I thought they were just MY friends!

Chapped lips - do you drink much water? Not soda or juice but water. If your body isn't hydrated well, it'll dry out. The winter time is when it seems to be the worst. Make sure you drink plenty of water (take two of these and call me in the morning!) and try the vaseline too. My brother gets horrible nosebleeds in the winter because his nose is so dry. He uses the vaseline too, stuffs it up his nose every nite! It works!

Lisa,

I'm officially using your anecdote to convince my 16 yr old son that this method DOES work for HIS nose, which does the same thing. I try to get him to use Vaseline (knowing he doesn't drink enough water) when he gets the nosebleeds, but he thinks it's gross.

Mind you, this is the kid who takes showers based on the Gregorian calendar.

I don't drink as much water as I probably should. Although, because I was told by a friend the same thing about being dehydrated, I have been trying. Plus, I have a bad habit of licking my lips, I can't help it, I just do it without thinking about it.

And RoadRunner and Lisa, they're my friends too! No wonder they haven't been spending as much time with me, since they seem to be spending more time with you! ;)

That's okay. His brother would take three showers a day if I let him, so he makes up for TWT.... :)

Yeah, sorry about that. My email server got weird on me, and I'm getting back emails from upwards to 10 days ago just now, so many of those "Hey, someone replied to your post" emails are just getting here.

Plus, we're doing Christmas tomorrow because we won't be here on "the" day, so it's been hectic here earlier than usual. Wheeeee. :)

Note the time here -- ugh, and I'm in the middle of finishing a crocheted scarf for my youngest daughter. Ha ha ha....can't wait to see what this last part looks like since I'm doing it in the middle of the night. Not that she'll notice.

If I don't get on here again, happy holidays, all. Pray for safe flights for me and my husband (we're flying from Pittsburgh to Florida to be with his mom for the holiday).

Linda

Hey I know her too!! ;) Hello Austruck! Merry CHRISTmas!! :)

About the water, you should drink 8 glasses a day! Not that I do it every day, but I used to. It really is good for your body. If you drink a glass or two before a meal, it fills your tummy up some before you start on the other stuff. Just one more advantage! Of course you can guess the main disadvantage of all that water going IN! hehe

TEN REASONS WHY I NEVER WASH

1. I was forced to as a child.

2. People who wash are hypocrites -- they think they are cleaner than everybody else.

3. There are so many different kinds of soap, I can't decide which is best.

4. I used to wash, but I got bored and stopped.

5. I wash only on special occasions, like Christmas and Easter.

6. None of my friends wash.

7. I'll start washing when I get older and dirtier.

8. I can't spare the time.

9. The bathroom is never warm enough in winter or cool enough in summer.

10. People who make soap are only after your money.
