Or wash machine... last week I bought two pairs of really nice, warm fuzzy socks for the winter. Already one has managed to escape! Aargh! Is it just me, or do socks have the ability to disappear at will?

YES THEY DO!!! Unless there's a little sock-eating monster in my house too! We have 5 kids - lots of socks! But it's not just socks that disapear! The boys underwear falls into the abyss too! I got the boys all 2 big packs of underwear and socks each. 3 months later - what do they have left? Just about nothing! I'm sure when we move we'll find a fat little monster in the laundry room and he'll confess to eating years worth of socks and such. Then he and his offspring will go with my children to their new homes when they move out - if not I'll just have to pay it! :)

Ya know, one day I took the entire dryer apart...because our clothes were disappearing from the laundry.
every single wash day, there ended up like 7 or 8 socks missing! {fire}
I went down there and took the dryer apart piece by piece, and found absolutely nothing!!!!!
There were no socks in that dryer!
I still, to this day, do not know where those socks are.

Aha! Maybe Lisa's pudgy little monster is using the dryer as a portal to another dimension!

I could have swore I put both pairs of those socks in the washer, yet when I went to fold everything... there were only three. I've searched everywhere for it! AAarrrgh!

I just bought my daughter six new pairs of socks. I give them about four weeks before the sock monster has gotten all of them.

I absolutely hate the sock monster....I bought a brand new pair of olive grren socks to maych my new olive green sweater, and I wore the outfit once, washed it, dryed it...and only came out with one olive green sock...what the heck???

I thought I was the only one! I don't have a dryer, but that washer! I have a bucket full of mine and the kids socks that I can't find the pairs to. There's at least 10 of mine and the same for the kids!

Okaaaaay... I did a load of my husbands jeans this morning. Loaded them in the dryer, get them dry, take them out. As I'm folding them up I notice a dark blue sock in the bottom of the laundry basket... looked just like my AWOL sock. Look in my bureau... 1, 2, 3 yep, there's 3 of the brand new socks. Look at the one in my hand... it's the missing sock! Yaaaay!

Only thing that scares me is that I've done probably 10 loads of laundry (at least) since it came up missing. where'd it come from? huh? {eek}

Maybe the monster started to feel bad for you and stuck it in a pant leg while you weren't looking? {toothy}

Atleast it's only you alls socks! I buy pants, shirts, sweaters...you name it and they will be gone in a week! Only my monster has a name and I know where he lives. Dirty little...
Someday I'm going to ask if I can do laundry at my friends house and while he isn't looking I'll steal back all my clothes that he says he doesn't know where they are, yet I see him wearing them all the time. Hummm...something smells linty! I mean something smells fishy! {fart}

pssst...over here, yeah you, come over here. It's a conspiracy I tell ya', didn't you know that the sock industry has paid out large sums of money to the washing/drying machine makers, so that it will keep you coming back to buy their socks. It's true I tell ya', TRUE{toothy}

I swear I wash my socks in pairs, and I once had so many socks they overflowed my sock drawer. But ever since we got our washer I have an empty sock drawer and have the time I half to wear mismatched socks. It's not fair! Where did all my lovely socks go?? {bawling}

KatCo, ya had me choking on my water over here! {toothy}

Kezzer, I do so know whatcha mean! I've given up and buy almost all my socks in white now - try to get the same brand, style, etc., so that I don't have so many lonely singles out there!

Heeyyyy, do you think that's it? They've gotten bored with their sockmate and they're hanging out at sock singles bars? OOoh, the rotten little buggers, just wait til they get home! Are they ever going to get a good talki... uh, nevermind. {freak}

The solution is simple… buy one pair of socks and never, ever take them off.
Ooohh…and don’t put your feet in the washer.
Problem solved.

Next?

Alas, I know where the socks go! {scatter}

You know the big piles of lint you pull out of your lint trap? THAT THERE'S YOUR SOCKS! Yup, I'm a genius! {einstein}

kezzer
02-04-2001, 11:03 PM
Hmm, I can't find the lint filter in my washer ,but boy some of my clothes get so covered in lint. That explains it all! They just disintegrate and end up on my clothes. I'm really beginning to wonder if I should buy stock in those lint rollers I buy so often.

ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH.....

You mean I have socks feeling unloved because I have been throwing away their mates!!!

I feel sooooooo guilty now that my head is spinning!!

{headspin}

Mickyhoo
02-04-2001, 11:08 PM
Kezzer.. washers no longer have lint filters.. which is why I REALLY think my socks disappear. They fit down the drain pipe in a lot of todays washers.. especially the front loaders.

kezzer
02-04-2001, 11:21 PM
Oh, well that explains why I haven't been able to find it! {blush} My drain hole is too small though, at least I know they aren't in there.

Mickyhoo
02-04-2001, 11:39 PM
I have a front loader and it can be real easy to lose them..

and when regular washers spin the can fly out between the tub and the outer tub and go right away with the wash waters.. At least that is what the housing maintance man told me as he gave me a sock that got stuck and backed up the drain!!

Lisa
02-05-2001, 12:21 AM
OOOHHHH!!! Then I should go send my kids out to the drain field to find their socks (and underwear?)! Everything but toilet water goes out there and the dogs play in it! Hey, wait a minute - why is Molly's dog house so full of tiny scraps of sock-like material?

LOL @ Mom....

I thought I was the only one who had disappearing shoes..

Made my 9 year wear his slippers to school one day (he was 6 at the time) when he could not find his shoes!! :o)

The teacher called me on the phone..

"uhhhh did you know Robbie wore his Power Rangers slippers to school?"

I had to tell her yes... but he had to go to school, and at least he was not barefoot !!!

now we find shoes for the next day before bed!!!! {sleeping}

ohh I take them to the doctor in their slippers all the time. When they do not feel good, and do not like going to the doctor in the first place.. why take away their comfort? I take them to the doc in their jammies too!! In fact getting ready to take the 4 yr old to the doc right now. In his scooby doo jammies and pikachu slippers!! {sleeping}

Have you ever been in such a hurry getting things out of the dryer that you mismatch socks???? and then put them on with no time to do anything about it and have to take them somewhere with 2 diffrent socks???? LOL......i have many many times.....kind of humiliating.... {blush}

Mickyhoo
02-06-2001, 02:14 PM
It is my 16 yr olds job to match socks so I ALWAYS double check to see if they match!!

His chore is separating the clothes and folding them after I wash them...

I do not let him OR hubby WASH the clothes as I like them to FIT and STAY THE SAME COLOR as they were when I bought them!!

And he cannot leave the house until they are done...

He also has an after-school job 2 out of 4 weeks a month... and he has to pay his own car insurance if he wants to keep his license!! With 5 sons in the house I cannot pay it!!

{headspin}

I know EXACTLY what you mean......LOL......my husband thought that it was ok to throw bleach in with the socks.....i agreed with him......until i found out later that he washed the girls red sweaters with them......UGH!!!! well, needless to say, my son was wearing pink socks until i got him to the store......:D and as for my husband......well he doesn't do the washing anymore!!! {mm}

Have you ever noticed that none of hubby's clothes are in the wash loads they accidentally mess up?

LOL.. that is ok though.. you should have seen the job I did the first and only time hubby asked me to iron his uniform for work!! OOOOOOOPS {angel2}

momofmany38
02-09-2001, 10:02 AM
the iron job huh? My hubby may not be good at washing.....but I have learned NEVER to pick up an iron.....first time that I ever did......i couldn't understand what the marks were on his pants......LOL......i turned it up as high as it would go......and left it there because there was a huge wrinkle.....AND I FORGOT ABOUT IT.....now i am not allowed to use it....LOL......but who can blame him??? {popworm}

Mickyhoo
02-10-2001, 01:08 AM

SO, I am still battling that sock eating monster. I finally gave up and threw away a few of the socks that I had from around teh time this thread was first started. Though I know now that the mate is thrown away it won't be long before I find the missing one!

There's a fundamental flaw with this calculator - it doesn't ask if you live in the Artic or the Equator. That will affect how many socks you wear! ;)

I have several pairs of socks that are similar designs. They are beige socks with squiggly lines on them. Some have grey squiggly lines, and some have brown squiggly lines; but otherwise they are identical.

Somehow I have lost one of each, so I have one pair that doesn't match. :(

My son has a batch of similar socks - he's always complaining that I don't match them up exactly. I just point out that the tops are below his trousers, so no-one can see them! (Except when he changes for P.E.)
