What? Do they think the animal has a better chance out here in the wild then in the suburbs? Once again, someone has dumped off a cat (two maybe) out here in the boonies. One is sooo beautiful that I just can't imagine NOT wanting it. It's a chocolate brown color with black stripes, she has some of the most unusual marking I've ever seen. And, she's friendly as all get out. The other is an all black cat, several people around here have black cats, so they aren't sure if the other is one of theirs or not.

I've checked with the neighbors and the female striped cat is no one's cat... or at least no one is claiming her. The poor thing is so hungry and her hip bones are sticking up beneath her fur. It makes me so angry that people do this! It's so cruel, I just can't imagine what goes through a persons head to justify this in their own mind!! Arrrrrrgh!! {flame}

So now, once again, it's left up to us to catch her, take her to the vets, get her healthy have her shots done and have her spayed. It's not the expense... it's the fact that someone else thought so little of this beautiful creature that they didn't take care of her as she deserved!! They should be the ones doing this, not taking her out to the country and dumping her off like a disposable diaper! I hope someday... well, I won't post what I'm hoping right now, it isn't polite!

Argh!! This lady in our apt. left for Virginia and left her cat here. I'm sure the poor thing has froze to death by now. It just makes me soooo mad.

I hate this too. My sister lives in the country and they get strays all the time. It is pretty sad, really. If you don't want the animal, take it to a shelter or find someone who does want it. And next time--don't buy a pet!!!

I went to the bowling alley one night, and when I pulled into the parking lot...there were two guys getting out of their car, one was carrying a cat....they walked over to a wooded area in the back of the lot and punted the cat over the ledge.
This was one of the sickest acts I have ever witnessed in my life!
I don't understand how ppl can hurt animals like that...or even neglect them. People do that because animals are small and defenseless.....have you ever seen anyone do anything like that to a pitbull?.......or a rottweiler?
I haven't!!
People who treat animals this way are cowards.

I don't hesitate to call the police or our Animal control if I actually see someone abusing or neglecting an animal. Unfortunately, some of our area enforcement officers are not the best for actually CARING about it one way or the other. However, usually a visit by the law is enough to make most people treat their pets a little better.

Like Jim said, the very least you can do is take them to a shelter and better still, find another home for them. Anything is better then dumping them off to try and figure out how to fend for themselves. Most of these animals end up being hit by cars, killed by dogs or shot by people who think it's a "bother" to have a stray around.

The people who shoot strays are no better then the people who dump them off. Our county provides free, harmless cages to trap the animal in. They'll bring them to your home! Then the county officers will come out, pick up the cage and take the animal to the shelter themselves. The people don't have to do anything but put a can of food in the cage to entice the cat or dog into it. It's pure laziness and meanness on their part to shoot a defenseless, scared animal like that.

We live out in a rural area. Like the rest of you we get strays alot. That is how we came to own our beautiful Miss Andy Renea Griffith. I can't imagine this gorgeous cat not being in our family. We always try to find the strays home if we can catch them. While driving home about a week ago I almost ran over a small puppy and his/her sibling. I came to an immediate stop and got out. All I was thinking was, " they are hungry, scared, and will get ran over." They ran like jack rabbits into the cotton field. I never saw them again. But one of the little strays was dead when I turned the corner. Yep, ran over. It is something that angers me to no end. Some of God's most beautiful gifts neglected in such a way.

Sometimes packs of strays can be dangerous. I usually take a wiffle ball bat with me when I take our dogs out.

My mom did that to my cat when I was 16, I was so hurt, my kitty was named K.C. initials for Kitty Cat and I loved her with all my heart. I came home from school one day and started looking for my kitty, then my mom told me that she took it to a neighborhood in town and let it go becuase there was a lot of people that lived in the neighborhood. She said we had to get rid of it cause we had to move, well we didnt move for another 5 years, I havent fully forgiven her yet, I dont know what happened to my kitty. She was declawwed and defenceless to other animals too :( tears. Im still broken up about it 13 years later. I have a kitten now though named Bonkers, and he is treated like royalty. Mean people.

I've been wanting to find that rare moment of time to go volunteer at the cat sanctuary in Clovis. I love cats. I am most definitely a cat person but we do have a dog that I love. Just our personalities clash at times.

I'm not allowed near any place like a sanctuary or Humane Society. My husband says he doesn't want to have to move out to make room for the animals.

Every cat or dog that I've ever had the privelage of calling my pet has come from an animal shelter. I never could justify paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a dog from a pet store or the likes when there are all those abondoned dogs in shelters who just need another family.

It really is sad especially when you consider the cost of spaying or neutering is not that high.

I paid $65 for my dog I have now. I got him at the animal shelter, and that included getting him neutered and all his shots.

I really, really, really have to call you on this one. My ex-husband would beat his Rottie, physically haul him up and punch him in the face. This dog wouldn't knowingly hurt a fly, but I do believe after too many beatings he would have.

You ever seen a dog that goes absolutely nuts when someone gets near it's house? I bet ya anything that dog is beaten regularly, or had been.

When you lump them together, don't single one or two breeds out. I believe for the most part that domesticated animals are pretty much defenseless, and that includes your pit bulls, rotties, german shepards, mastiffs, etc. I believe that people are less concerned over felines due to their independent nature, and hence treat them with less respect. And I whole-heartedly believe that people that treat animals badly are bad people. My ex-husband had no qualms raising a fist to me until he did it in front of the rottweilers, and my Shelby snapped at his fist like she was going to take it off. (And she probably would have if he had laid another hand on me)

Mainly I'm just saying that the attitude you're portraying is what is leading people to want to ban certain breeds of dogs because they're "tough & mean."

I know this is way off track of the topic, but I'm all for educating folks about the "dangerous breeds" and weird pets.

Personally I think people that abandon animals anywhere but a shelter should be hog-tied and tarred & feathered(and the same goes for abuse & neglect of animals too). If a person willingly abandons a defenseless and dependent critter to the "wilds" they probably don't treat people much better. I honestly judge people by how they treat my animals and how my animals react to them. I love critters of all types, ok, well except for fish coz they're too high maintenance. :)

I live in the country and have seen people dump out animals. Both dogs and cats it doesn't matter. I took in a dog about 3 weeks ago and she is a part of our family now. People let dogs out and they get into packs and kill livestock for food.

I have a new neighbor. Her name is JuJu Baby. She is the prettiest Calico and yes dropped off. There are 3 of us that feed her. She has made our neighborhood prettier.
