My wife keeps thinking she heard somewhere that if you are taking Prilosec you need to have your liver checked each year. I asked my local pharmacist, and he said, "No."
Is she just confusing Prilosec with another popular drug? She has a pretty good memory for that kind of thing, so I keep wondering about it.
Does anybody know anything about it? Is there a pharmacist in the house? ;)

No-Prilosec does not have any liver warnings that I know of.
She may be thinking of Lipitor, which has been advertised direct-to-consumers lately. Most cholesterol-lowering medications carry this warning, as do some diabetes medications (Rezulin, Avandia).
Rezulin was recently withdrawn from the market because of liver side effects. She may be thinking of that?...

JGL,
My H takes Prilosec - lots cheaper than Prevacid, but helps just as well.
The MD who prescribed this med to you should know to take care of any liver enzymes you may need drawn - when in doubt, make those docs earn their Jaguars and ASK them. Call during office hours, it's the job of nursing staff to relay questions like yours to the Docs.
Whatever you do, don't call you local ER for the answer :)
Love,
An ER Nurse
