Kathy Fink, my company's receptionist, died last night of heart failure. She was checked into the hospital about a month ago because of bleeding. They found colon cancer and removed it with surgery. She was supposed to be at home recovering for about six weeks.

Apparently, she went back into the hospital on Thursday while I was in New York City; and amazingly, nobody called me. I didn't find out Friday either, because I wasn't in the office.

They ran all kinds of tests on her Friday and Saturday because she was bleeding and in pain again. One of my friends said she looked 10 years older. Then she died last night at about midnight.

She was only in her fifties. Amazing. Life is so frail. I cannot imagine what her husband and two adult daughters are going through.

Here is something amazing. We have about 65 employees, and about 60 of them are going to the funeral. I figured on about half, not because I don't think much of my employees, but because most people don't like going to funerals.

Of course, I think everybody liked Kathy. She was one great lady.

It sounds like she will be missed. I think I'm a little late, but still wanted to say that I hope everyone in the office is taking her loss well.

So sorry to hear it...the fact that so many attended her funeral is obviously testament to the closely-knit work enviroment you have and the way they feel about her. She, and her family, will be in my prayers tonight.
