Get a life!!
Now That's Entertainment!
Tired of movie theaters? Looking for plenty of suspense,
action, humor, romance, dating, courtship, marriage,
love, hatred, jealousy, lying, cheating, stealing,
betrayal, robbery, kidnapping, assault, rape, murder,
mutilation, human sacrifice, violence, drunkenness,
gambling, demon-possession, exorcism, ghosts, angels,
devils, idolatry, astrology, and sorcery? How about
heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, incest,
polygamy, perversion, prostitution, and adultery? Maybe
you're looking for a French kiss that outdated France by
over 1700 years! Did I forget discrimination,
anti-Semitism, slavery, ethnic cleansing, civil war,
espionage, and prisoners of war? What about arrests,
unfair trials, perjury, corrupt judges, jails,
jailbreaks, and capital punishment? Maybe floods, fires,
earthquakes, storms, and eclipses? And how could we
leave out plagues, scabs, sores, boils, lesions,
swelling, and bodily discharges?
Any kind of entertainment you are looking for can be
found in the Bible.
Forget entertainment, why not read the Bible for its
historical value? If you want to understand the problems
in the Mid-East, read about their beginnings.
Why not read the Bible so you can tell Christians,
"Have you ever read the Bible? I've read it front
to back, and I'm not interested." That ought to
shut them up.
15 X 365 = 1
Do you have a spare 15 minutes? I don't know about you,
but I am awake a minimum of 17 hours a day (6:00 AM -
11:00 PM). 15 minutes a day means that I have 98.5% of
the rest of my day free.
15 minutes a day is all that stands between you and
reading the entire Bible in one year. Do you think only
Bible scholars read the Bible? Well, I don't have a
doctorate in theology, but as of April 1, 2005, I am a
little over one quarter of the way through reading the Bible for my
12th time. Don't get the wrong idea, once
I knew that it only took 15 minutes a day, I was not
proud of the fact that I was 28 years old before I had
ever read through the Bible even once.
The One Year Bible
The One Year Bible is the key to reading the
Bible in one year. The text is divided into daily
readings. For each day there is a portion of the Old
Testament, the New Testament, the Psalms, and the
Proverbs, grouped in consecutive pages. The great thing
is, you can start on any day of the year, and 365 days
later you will be done. And if you get stuck in the
"begets" of the Old Testament, in five or so
minutes you'll be reading the New Testament or a Psalm.
It never gets boring. You can get The One Year Bible in
just about any translation.
My wife and I were engaged one year before we got
married. We took that year to read The One Year Bible
together. Every day we would spend at least 15 minutes
together reading it out loud. She was a better reader
than I was at first, but now I do pretty well. When I was
out of town, we read it individually and then talked
about it on the phone. After we read, we always took
another 2-5 minutes to pray together. We've been doing
that ever since, and it is a great foundation for our
So pick up your copy of The One Year Bible today and start reading. It is published by Tyndale and
the ISBN number is 0-8423-4608-2. I recommend the New Living Translation (NLT). It would not be my choice for Bible study, but it is excellent for daily reading.
As long as I don't get drowned with requests, I will
send you a free copy if you give me your street address
on the feedback form.
